13th CRC Selection Round successful applicants announced

December 10 2010

CMGS would like to congratulate all of the successful applicants who received funding in the 13th CRC selection round.

The CRC Association made the following announcement in a recent newsletter:

Congratulations to successful CRC bidders

The Cooperative Research Centres Association has welcomed the announcement of Round 13 funding by the Australian Government Minister for Innovation, Senator Kim Carr.

Two existing Cooperative Research Centres and two new Cooperative Research Centres have received funding totaling around $100 million, these being:

  • CRC for High Integrity Australian Pork
  • CRC for Young People, Technology and Wellbeing
  • CRC for Contamination Assessment and Remediation of the Environment
  • CRC for Mental Health

"The CRC Program is vitally important for bringing together researchers and end-users to really make a difference" said Tony Peacock, of the CRC Association. "The program represents less that 2% of the Australian Government's innovation spending and really delivers for taxpayers".

The CRC Program is intensely competitive. From 30 applications, 13 were short listed and only four have received funding offers.  "The level of competition shows that industry and research organisations value the program highly because they know CRCs deliver for their sector."

"Unfortunately, many people who have gone through a long and intensive selection process will be feeling extremely disappointed that they missed out on funding. The CRC Association commiserates with them and hopes that they will continue to stay involved and interested in CRCs."

Prof. Peacock said "We know that the coming Round will also be highly competitive. I hope those that have been unsuccessful on this occasion will consider bidding again. I know that people put their heart and soul into applications and many businesses and other organisations offered significant contributions to the various proposals."

The following applications were not able to be funded in the round:

  • CAST
  • CRC in Pharmaceutical Analysis
  • CRC for Arts and Entertainment Futures
  • CRC for Healthy Brains
  • CRC for Low Carbon Buildings, Cities and Communities
  • CRC for Polymers
  • CRC for Social Inclusion
  • Future Biofuels CRC
  • Plant Biosecurity CRC

Minister Carr has announced the 14th Selection Round, with encouragement of centres in the areas of clean manufacturing, social innovation and sustainable regional communities.
